How to Make a Slip Knot
Single crochet (sc): This is the basic crochet stitch.
To complete a single crochet:
Insert your hook in either both loops, front loop only, or back loop only (as pattern indicates). Draw up new loop, pull through both loops.
The photos below show the sc stitch worked into a foundation chain, working into the top loop of each chain stitch. (You can also work into two loops of each chain, but that is a little trickier for a beginner). If you are working into other stitches (not into chains) then you will typically insert your hook into BOTH loops of the stitch, then pull up a loop, then pull through both loops. The tops of crochet stitches, whether they be slip stitches, single crochets, double crochets, treble crochets, etc. all have two loops at the top.
